Mastering Formations in The Grand Mafia

When it comes to The Grand Mafia, power alone isn’t enough to win battles. Strategy is key, and one of the most important aspects of battle strategy is understanding formations. Properly setting up your formation can be the difference between victory and defeat. In this guide, we’ll break down how formations work, why they matter, and how you can optimize them for different battle scenarios.

What Are Formations in The Grand Mafia?

Formations in The Grand Mafia refer to the arrangement and composition of your troops before engaging in battle. Each troop type has strengths and weaknesses, and positioning them correctly can maximize their effectiveness. A well-planned formation ensures that your strongest units take advantage of their attributes while minimizing damage to weaker ones.

Types of Troops in The Grand Mafia

Before discussing formations, it’s important to understand the main troop types:

  • Bikers – Fast and high-damage units, excellent for breaking enemy lines.

    • Strong against: Bruisers

    • Weak against: Hitmen

  • Hitmen – Provide powerful ranged attacks but are vulnerable to direct attacks.

    • Strong against: Bikers

    • Weak against: Bruisers

  • Bruisers – Act as shields, absorbing damage and protecting other units.

    • Strong against: Hitmen

    • Weak against: Bikers

  • Cars – The slowest troop type but with the highest carrying capacity.

    • Strong against: Walls

How Do Formations Work?

When you send troops into battle, their formation determines how they engage the enemy. The Grand Mafia allows you to customize troop positioning and troop ratios, enabling you to create specialized strategies. Here’s how formations impact battle outcomes:

At the start of battle, associates will split into groups of 4 for each associate type, these will form either a square or wedge.

Frontline Strength Matters

Placing strong defensive units at the front helps counter enemy attacks. The key to success is placing the right counter unit at the frontline. If your opponent is attacking with Bikers, you should position Hitmen at the frontline using a Hitman Square Formation or Hitman Wedge Formation.

Offense is the Best Defense

If you are on the offensive, your attacking troops should be positioned at the back of the formation. You’ll need four troops of different types (excluding Cars). If you are attacking with Bikers, you should place them at the back to maximize their impact while using Hitman Square Formation, supported by four Bruisers and four Hitmen in the lineup.

How to Optimize Your Formation

To further enhance your battle efficiency, consider these additional tips:

  • Scout Before You Attack – Always check your enemy’s troop composition. Never attack blindly, as your opponent might be using a trap account.

  • Use Counters Effectively – If your opponent relies heavily on Bikers, counter them with Hitmen.

  • Upgrade and Train Wisely – Even the best formation won’t help if your troops are underpowered. Continuously upgrade and train your troops for maximum effectiveness.

  • Experiment and Adapt – No single formation is unbeatable. Adjust your setup based on the battle situation and enemy tactics.

Square vs. Wedge Formation

When your troop type counters your enemy’s, the enemy will receive more damage. However, if your enemy counters your troop type, you will receive more damage. This makes selecting the right formation critical to success.

The Wedge Formation is divided into two parts, allowing squads to adjust their attacks during battle.

Key Advantage: If a significant number of frontline troops die, there is a chance for the remaining units to shift to other squads. This formation is particularly useful when you’re uncertain about the enemy’s troop composition.

Hitmen? The exception to the rule

Hitmen should be placed in the 2nd row, not the 3rd row, in an offensive hitman attack.

Why?

Hitmen are not positioned in the final line of formation. Unlike Bruisers and Bikers, which are melee attackers, Hitmen are a special troop type—they are ranged attackers.

Placing them in the second row allows them to reach their optimal attacking position faster than if they were in the final line. This means they can begin their attack more quickly, giving them a strategic advantage. Additionally, this positioning does not compromise the meat shield, as the final line—Bikers (in Bruiser Wedge) and Bruisers (in Biker Square)—will still intercept attackers before they can reach the Hitmen.

Final Thoughts

Mastering formations in The Grand Mafia is a crucial skill that separates casual players from top-tier strategists. Whether you’re launching an attack, defending your turf, or participating in a rally, understanding troop positioning and composition will give you a significant advantage.

By implementing the right formation and adapting to different battle scenarios, you’ll not only win more fights but also establish yourself as a dominant force in the game. So, start fine-tuning your formations today and take control of the criminal underworld!
